How Duolingo reignited user growth

Jorge covers what worked and what didn’t in the 3 phases of experimentation for reigniting user growth; increasing gamification, referrals, and using data and models. Through this, Duolingo increased their CURR by 21%, which represents a reduction in the daily churn of best users by over 40% and, together with other successful bets, led to an increase in our DAU of 4.5x.

In recent years, Gen Z has adopted a distinct palette that has one foot in techno-nostalgia and another in the aesthetics of the current digital world. It’s a preference that’s seeped from viral social media campaigns into Gen Z-focused brands, and finally into the mainstream for everyone else to consume.
As our use of technology becomes more prolific, the folks at Pantone anticipate, for the foreseeable future, a demand and desire for electronic brights and fluorescent hues at all levels of design, including product fabrication and multimedia design.
As video games grow, they are eating the media
If you are in media, you need to be in gaming. Apple and Netflix are scrambling to complement their streaming offerings with games. Others are already there. In August Sony Pictures will release “Gran Turismo”, a film based on a Sony game which features songs by artists from Sony Music. Media firms that ignore gaming risk being like those that decided in the 1950s to sit out the tv craze.
